SunShot Initiative, U.S. Department of Energy

Yoked Corp. president, Gordon Israelson, served on the technical advisory committee to the Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) Sunshine Team for the effort to streamline solar zoning, permitting, and inspection processes across 23 municipalities that are participating in the US Department of Energy Rooftop Solar Challenge.
The DOE SunShot Initiative is a collaborative national initiative to make solar energy cost competitive with other forms of energy by the end of the decade. Reducing the installed cost of solar energy systems by about 75% will drive widespread, large-scale adoption of this renewable energy technology and restore U.S. leadership in the global clean energy race.

A large solar water heating system was designed to reduce the water heating cost for a cafeteria building. The array of 120 solar energy collectors is projected to provide about 70% of the water heating energy needed by this building on an annual basis. The building requires 6900 gallons of hot water per day. The annual energy cost savings is about $91,000 when electricity costs $0.375 per kW-h, typical of Hawaii.

Yoked Corp. performed the structural analysis of an array of solar photovoltaic collector panels cantilevered from the side of a multipurpose classroom / office building. In addition to the weight of the structure itself, issues considered were snow loads combined with wind loads. The analysis was performed as required by the ICC International Building Code 2009. Yoked Corp. was able to suggest changes to the original design by the solar installer to reduce installation cost and increase structural reliability.

Note these photovoltaic panel are partially transparent, yet they produce electricity.
